Design Samuel Wilkinson for &tradition Concept The Blown SW3 Pendant is Samuel Wilkinson’s first lamp for &tradition. This pendant is made from elegantly mould-blown glass, sports a quilted pattern and is available in two versions. The first is transparent with a discreet silver sheen while the other has a fascinating sandblasted matte white surface. The suspension fixture is powder-coated cast metal with a flexible E27 socket that is rated to 60 watts. The shade is intended to be playful and explores the reflections, twists and refractions a light source experiences when surrounded by glass with patterns blown into it. Wilkinson explains that it all began with the idea of seeing the world through a filter, inspired by antique ceramics, old glass pieces, lenses from old lamps, lighthouses and mirrored bottles. The quilted surface has drawn on inspiration from berries and seeds - raspberries in particular. The production process is characterised by its unique combination of industrial processes and traditional craftsmanship. The texture of the glass is created using computer-aided design in order to control the blowing of each bubble. The craftsmanship manifests itself in the shapes and sizes of the bubbles, controlled by the use of shapes.
